June: SAMAR
Hello, journaling friends! In 2025, our monthly Cafe Analog’s friendly journaling challenge #caprojectme25 will take its prompts from beautiful words/phrases from various languages around the world! We think it will be a fun way to start the year while also allowing you to design a spread based on the essence of a word/phrase, making it very personal to you! We will also have three journaling prompts for you to choose from as a way for you to connect more with the month’s word/phrase selection!
The phrase for June is a beautiful Arabic word, “SAMAR”.
As we step into June, a month often associated with renewal, growth, and blossoming life, we think this beautiful Arabic word can serve as a meaningful journaling prompt this month. Samar (سمر) means “evening gathering,” “conversation,” or “enjoyment of peaceful moments.” But beyond its literal meaning, Samar celebrates the magic of staying up late with loved ones, enjoying each other’s company, and creating memories that last a lifetime. The word is particularly fitting for June, a month often associated with long summer nights, warm weather, and outdoor adventures. It’s a time when people often come together to celebrate, socialize, and make the most of their free time.
This month, create a spread with your stationery supplies or other materials to capture the essence of the phrase SAMAR for you. If the word is a journal spread, what would it look like?
Here are some creative journaling prompts for you to choose from:
1.
Moonlit Conversations
Write about the last time you stayed up late with someone, either outside watching the stars twinkling above or maybe in the kitchen with a cup of tea, and engaging in deep conversations that left a lasting impact. Who were you with, and what did you talk about? What did you learn from that moment?
2.
Staying Up Late
Imagine that you can go on a beautiful midnight escapade or staycation with someone—or maybe just being there at home, staying up until late with someone on a particular day. Who would you like that person to be, and what will you do if you have to stay up late together?
3.
Long Nights, Deep Talks
What are some of your favorite subjects or topics for deep talks late in the evening? What are some of your favorite midnight conversation subjects? Love? Philosophy? Childhood memories? Why do you think these subjects are perfect for midnight or late-night conversation where you can bare your soul to someone else?
Feel free to share your pages and spreads with the hashtag #caprojectme25 if you’d like others who join the project to find yours, and you can also see how others translate SAMAR into their journal pages!
This June, let the word Samar remind you to reconnect with the people around you (or maybe a friend you know from the Internet!) and dive deep into meaningful, memorable, and vulnerable conversations! Because it is when we share our vulnerability with one another, a bond is created!
love, H.
