Yamamoto Paper – Texture Series Tonoko – Ro-Biki Note

We had the pleasure of having Yamamoto Paper visit our office the other day, and we’re so happy to bring some of their products to our shop! Ro-Biki notebook used waxed paper for the cover. Just like leather, this notebook develops more creases and a glossier surface the more you use it. We’ve been using Ro-Biki notebooks ourselves to create collection books, i.e., favorite recipes, morning affirmations, or favorite quotes. The paper is fountain pen-friendly, with minimal feathering and quick drying times. However, because it soaks up ink quickly, very wet nibs or heavily saturated inks may cause slight bleed-through. Tonoko (砥の粉 or 砥粉) is a fine, natural clay or whetstone powder primarily used in traditional crafts like kintsugi (pottery repair) and woodworking. Historically, the highest-quality tonoko is mined from natural clay deposits in the Yamashina area of Kyoto.
